CRYSTALLISATION OF SOCIETY II

Medium: Oil on Canvas

Size: 16x60 cm x3

This work explores how people are composed by other’s emotions and opinions. It is inspired by Itou Junji’s comic book, this is showed by putting human heads on a person. These heads are painted with four basic emotion of human in Chinese culture, which are happy, anger, joy and sorrow. Hence it is easier for the audience to recognize them as representation of emotions. Individuals are also restrained by emotions of others, this is shown through the pose of the main body, given the viewers a feeling that something is bothering it. It is possible to perceive this work as a negative comment on the relationship between the society and individuals. In order to help the viewer to understand the work in a more neutral way, I give it a clean white background.

This painting is placed at the right corner of the exhibition room, providing the audience a chance to appreciate it from longer distance. Although this painting consists three pieces, the audience is encouraged to view the work all together, as these pieces can only display a complete theme when they are together.
