IN-EXTERNAL INFLUENCES (SERIES)

Medium: Pastel on Canvas

Size: 40x50 cm x6

This project is inspired by Laws of Attraction, it explores how behaviour/movement/existence of individuals have impact on the society. In this series, smoke works as a metaphor of words, because smoking is a common action that we see everydya, hence it is easy for the audience to picture what is going to happen next, which these smokers are going to breath in the part of the same smokes they just breath out. Pastel as tool helps to create haziness, and a feeling of smokers fading away with smokes. The consistent use of colour in each painting aim to create the feeling that the smoker and smokes are influence each other, it also helps the audences to focus on their interations. Each piece share equal brightness with the purpose of distracting viewers, so it is hard for them to concentrate on looking at just one painting, instead they are forced to view the series as one work, and see the interation between each pieces.

The series is displayed at a relatively small space, hence it encourages viewers to look closer to the work, in showing them how close are these impacts to us.
